Azza Fahmy Foundation's programs and curricula are designed to create career-launching opportunities for underserved Egyptian youth in the handicrafts sector by building their vocational capacities, and enhancing their technical and professional skill set. The foundation has established a sustainable model for qualifying professional jewellery craftsmen and women, and is developing new models for various traditional and endangered crafts, ensuring they remain practised, transferred, and developed.
Azza Fahmy Foundation recognizes the role of craftspeople in conserving cultural heritage, adapting
it to fit the contemporary needs of society, and the role of craftwork to enrich and promote the well- being of communities.
The Azza Fahmy Foundation was established to preserve and develop Egypt’s rich heritage of traditional craftsmanship. Building on the legacy of Azza Fahmy, a pioneering jewellery designer who started her journey in 1969, the foundation was officially launched in collaboration with the Egyptian National Academy for Science and Skills, with support from the Swiss-based Drosos Foundation. Initially focused on jewellery-making, the foundation has expanded its reach to support a variety of endangered crafts, ensuring they continue to thrive in modern markets
Our mission is to empower Egyptian youth by providing vocational training in traditional crafts, enabling them to build sustainable careers. We envision a future where Egyptian heritage is preserved through skilled artisans, ensuring crafts are adapted to contemporary needs while retaining their cultural significance.
"At Azza Fahmy Foundation, we believe that every young artisan deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Our work is not just about preserving traditional crafts, but about giving them new life in a globalized world. Through education, mentorship, and innovation, we are creating a sustainable future for Egyptian craftsmanship. Our trainees are not just learning a skill—they are becoming part of a legacy."
